FDE Workbench (“we”, “us”) runs a training simulator at fdeworkbench.dev where aspiring forward-deployed engineers practice on a fictional company. This policy explains what we collect, why, who sees it, and your choices. Questions go to support@fdeworkbench.dev.
What we collect
If you use the simulator
- Your name and email address. You give us these when you sign in, and we verify the address with a one-time link.
- Your consent record. The version of the sharing terms you accepted and when.
- Your work in the simulation. The questions you type to the characters and their replies (your interview transcripts), your notebook, process maps, baselines, choices, builds, readout text, the actions you take and when, and your scores.
- Help messages. Questions you ask the help assistant and notes you send to the builder, with the page you were on. We get an email alert for each one, read them to answer you and improve the app, and do not share them with employers.
- Feedback about you. After you finish, each character you interviewed rates your conduct and writes a short comment. This is generated automatically.
- Sign-in links. We store a hashed copy of each one-time link. It expires after 30 minutes and works once.
If you join the employer waitlist
- Your name, work email, company, role, and any note you write.
Cookies and similar storage
- One essential cookie,
fde_session, keeps you signed in. It is HttpOnly and lasts up to 90 days. Signing out removes it. - Your light or dark theme choice is saved in your browser (
fde-theme). It never leaves your device. - We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics. Our hosting provider processes technical request data, such as IP addresses, to deliver and secure the site.
How we use it
- To run the simulator, keep your progress, and score your work.
- To send you sign-in emails.
- To show your results to employers, as described below.
- To contact employers on the waitlist about access.
- To keep the service secure and working.
Employers can see your results
FDE Workbench is free for candidates because employers will pay for access. When you sign in you agree that employers who use the platform may see your name and email address, your scores, your interview transcripts, and the feedback the simulated colleagues give about you. Access for employers is being opened in stages, so none may have it yet.
You can withdraw this consent at any time by emailing us. We will stop sharing from then on. We cannot take back what an employer has already seen.
AI processing
The characters in the simulator, the feedback about you, and the help assistant are written by an AI model from Anthropic. To produce them we send the text of your conversation with a character or with the help assistant, along with that character’s or assistant’s instructions, to Anthropic’s API. Anthropic handles that text under its own terms and privacy policy. AI-written replies and feedback can be wrong or unfair, which is one reason employers make their own decisions.
Who else handles your data
- Cloudflare hosts the site, stores the database, and delivers our email.
- Anthropic generates character replies and feedback, as described above.
- Authorities, if the law requires us to disclose something.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and results until you ask us to delete them. Ask by email and we will delete your name, email, transcripts, scores, and feedback. Copies in routine backups may persist briefly.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, or stop sharing it with employers. Email support@fdeworkbench.dev from the address you signed in with, and we will reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live, such as the EU, the UK, or California, you may have further rights, and we will honor them.
Security
The site uses HTTPS, the session cookie is not readable by page scripts, and sign-in links are stored only as hashes. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a mailbox only you can read.
Children
FDE Workbench is for adults and is not directed to anyone under 16. If you believe a child has signed up, tell us and we will delete the account.
Where data is processed
Our providers run globally, so your information may be processed in the United States and other countries.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, for changes to who can see your results, ask you again at sign-in.
